Student Leadership

Developing strong leadership skills in our young people is a key focus for the academy.

We believe it is essential for our students to actively shape our school community. Our Student Parliament structure empowers students to advocate on issues that directly affect students and to propose solutions for enhancing our academy.

This group undertakes significant responsibilities that reflect their leadership capabilities, including assisting with the smooth operation of Open Evenings and Parents' Evenings and organising fundraising events. .

How Students are Elected to the School Parliament

The election process for the School Parliament is designed to be fair and transparent, encouraging all students to participate. Here’s how the process typically works:

  1. Nomination: Students interested in becoming members of the School Parliament can nominate themselves or be nominated by their peers. This is usually done within each tutor group or year level.

  2. Campaigning: Nominees are given the opportunity to campaign for their positions. They may create posters, deliver speeches, or engage their classmates to share their ideas and vision for the role. This allows students to express why they believe they would be effective representatives.

  3. Voting: An election is held, where all students have the chance to cast their votes for their preferred candidates. Voting can be conducted through secret ballots to ensure confidentiality.

  4. Counting Votes and Announcing Results: Once voting is complete, the votes are counted, and the results are announced. The candidates with the highest number of votes in each tutor group become their representatives in the School Parliament.

  5. Taking Office: Newly elected members of the School Parliament are then inducted and begin their duties, representing their peers and working towards improving the school environment.

Through this structured process, the School Parliament ensures that every student has a voice and is involved in shaping the school community.
