Park Lane Academy

Safeguarding

Park Lane Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the well being of all of its pupils. Every child has a right to protection from harm. Each pupil’s welfare is of paramount importance. We recognise that some children may be especially vulnerable to abuse.

Safeguarding is defined as:

Providing help and support to meet the needs of children as soon as problems emerge
• protecting children from maltreatment, whether that is within or outside the home, including online
• preventing the impairment of children’s mental and physical health or development
• ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care • taking action to enable all children to have the best outcome

 We believe that:

  • Schools play a key role in the prevention of abuse.
  • All children have the right to be protected from harm.
  • Children need support that matches their individual needs, including those who may have experienced abuse.

All staff share an objective to help keep children and young people safe by contributing to:
• Providing a safe environment for children and young people to learn and develop in our Academy setting.
• Identifying children and young people who are suffering or likely to suffer significant harm and taking appropriate action with the aim of making sure they are kept safe both at home and in our Academy setting.
• Providing a stimulating, enriching curriculum that promotes health and wellbeing and enables children to know how to keep safe and manage risk.

All staff, including temporary staff and governors at Park Lane Academy undertake training on safeguarding children that enables them to fulfill their responsibilities in respect of child protection effectively. The training is refreshed on a regular basis to keep staff knowledge and skills up to date.

All staff follow the Safeguarding Children Procedures which are consistent with "Working Together to Safeguard Children 2018" and “Keeping Children Safe in Education 2023”. Through their day-to-day contact with students, staff have a crucial role to play in keeping children safe. Parents and carers should be aware, therefore, that where it appears to a member of staff that a child may be at immediate risk, the Academy is required, as a part of local child protection procedures, to report their concerns to Social Services immediately.
