Outline of Subject
You will be studying the early years of Elizabeth I’s reign and the difficulties she had as a Queen of England and how she overcame these difficulties to make England a powerful and rich country. Crime and Punishment through time will be studied looking at how crime, law enforcement and punishments changed over time in England, beginning with Anglo Saxon England c 1000 up until the present day, the Cold War how it began in 1941; to the crises that developed between the USA and the USSR to the end of the Cold War in 1991 and how Hitler was able to take advantage of the problems in Germany to become leader and create the totalitarian state of Nazi Germany.

How will I learn?
This GCSE requires students to understand, analyse and evaluate how the past has been interpreted and represented in different ways. Students will:
- Develop and extend their knowledge and understanding of specified key events, periods and societies in local, British, and wider world history, and of the wide diversity of human experience.
- Engage in historical enquiry to develop as independent learners and as critical and reflective thinkers.
- Develop the ability to ask relevant questions about the past, to investigate issues critically and to make valid historical claims by using a range of sources in their historical context.
- Develop an awareness of why people, events and developments have been accorded historical significance.
- Organise and communicate their historical knowledge and understanding in different ways and reach substantiated conclusion.
Through the study of these modern history topics, students will gain vital key skills such as problem solving, analysis, empathy and working with others. These skills are essential, not only for History and other subjects in school, but for any career a student may wish to pursue in the future. It is a solid academic subject and well respected by universities and employers alike. Choosing History at GCSE will provide students with numerous opportunities for further progression.
