Outline of Subject

The Level 2 BTEC Tech Award in Sport is a vocational course consisting of coursework and an external assessment (exam). Assessment on this course will provide students with an overall grade of either a Pass Merit, Distinction or Distinction*. The three components are delivered through both practical and theory lessons and are assessed through a wide range of tasks that are personalised to the individual learner. This course is for those students who have a real passion for sport and physical activity. Students need to have an ability in sport and be committed to the subject for the duration of the course. Students on this course are expected to be well prepared, organised and engaged with all the course content in order to achieve a positive grade. For 2 of the learning aims, students are required to lead sporting activities and be filmed as part of their grade.

Achievement at Level 2 provides a suitable foundation for further study with BTEC Sport at Level 3 and can lead onto many vocational careers including sports coaching, physiotherapy, sports development or sports management. BTEC Sport can also provide a sound knowledge base for A Level Physical Education. There are a range of BTEC Sport Level 3 Qualifications on offer at colleges.
