Disadvantaged Strategy

The pupil premium is additional funding that's been given to schools in England, from April 2011, to help close the gap in attainment between disadvantaged pupils and their peers.

Evidence shows that children from disadvantaged background:

  • Generally face extra challenges in reaching their potential in school.
  • Often do not perform as well as their peers.

Objectives of spending Pupil Premium

  • To raise attainment and accelerate the progress of pupils eligible for pupil premium funding.
  • Greater proportion of students are at their chronological reading age. Improved reading ages and better access to a differentiated curriculum.
  • To improve the attendance and parental engagement.
  • The teaching of literacy is consistent across all age ranges and subject areas and is having a positive impact on the progress of students.

The disadvantaged strategy is reviewed annually. The next annual review will take place in October 2024.
