Student Leadership Team
Developing students’ leadership skills is an important aspect of life at Park Lane Academy. All students need to develop confidence, resilience, organisation and communication skills and there are ample opportunities for them to do this. Our Student Leadership Team is comprised of our Head Students, Deputy Head Students / Lead Ambassadors and Head Prefects.
Their role is to be ambassadors for the school, lead at key functions, and assist in running the school council. They meet with the school’s leadership team once every half term to discuss issues that are important to the student body. These will include three specific areas this year:
Diversity
Charity and Community
Mental Health
Each student leader will be Ambassadors of one of these specific areas. They will fulfil a "Legacy project" whilst in this role. Students from the Year 10 can apply for these roles each June and their term of office will run from September for one year.
In Year 11, students are also offered the opportunity to apply to become prefects. About 15 are chosen every year. Prefects do duties around the school during the day, assist with sports events and help with events that we run for our primary schools. Selected students are also buddies for Year 7 students when they arrive at the school.
All students can take responsibility by putting themselves forward to be a tutor representative. Tutor reps represent their tutor group in year meetings, and go forward to School Council. School Council runs half termly and students discuss ways to further enhance school improvement from a student perspective.
