Option-Physical Education

Outline of Subject: The GCSE PE qualification is made up of three key components. Physical factors affecting performance (exam), socio-cultural issues and sports psychology (exam) and performance in physical education. Each exam is worth 30% of the grade with the practical element worth 40%. The practical element is broken up into three sports (team, individual and choice) and analysis and evaluation of performance in a chosen activity. The course is designed with a straightforward structure and clear focused content so that students can develop their knowledge and practical skills.

How will I learn? Students will develop their knowledge, understanding, skills and values in physical performance and theory. They will undertake a team, individual and one other sport to develop their skills and perform effectively. They will analyse and evaluate their performance. Students will develop their knowledge of physical factors affecting performance and sociology-cultural issues and sports psychology through theory lessons.

Where will it take me? The course will prepare learners for the further study of PE or sports science courses as well as other related subjects’ areas such as psychology, sociology and biology. Learners will also develop transferable skills that are in demand by further education, higher education and employers in all sectors of industry. You can complete A-Level qualifications as well as vocational courses which can lead to degrees and masters qualifications.
