Outline of Subject: The BTEC Tech Award in Creative Media Production is a Level 2 qualification that allows students to explore different audiences and types of media. You will focus on the film industry and look at how different techniques are used to engage audiences. You will then put this knowledge into practice creating several short movies according to a set brief.

How will I learn? There will be a mixture of independent and supported research into aspects of the media industry where you will need to produce a written piece of work about your investigations. For component 2, you will look in depth at the techniques used by filmmakers and will be assessed on your practical film making skills. The examined element will require you to plan, create and edit a short video based on a given brief. Some of this assessment will be under exam conditions.

Where will it take me? During the course, you can see whether the industry is one you want to be in, where you could go, and gain the knowledge and skills you need to succeed in their next steps. After completing the course, you can continue on to further vocational and academic study at level 2 and level 3, as well as apprenticeships and traineeships. What’s more, the transferable skills you master during your studies such as self-reflection, communication, teamwork and problem solving will also support your progress in the present and future.
