Madrid Trip 2019
On the 13th of February a group of year 10s and 11s flew to Madrid to improve our GCSE Spanish, embrace the culture and see the beautiful sights.
Throughout the four days we walked approximately 26 miles around sunny Madrid and we saw various sites like the palace, the cathedral, famous squares, famous landmarks, art museums, markets and the Buen Retiro park. On each day we had challenges that pushed us to speak Spanish like, for example, on the third day we had to buy a post card and stamp and write a post card back to a member of staff in Spanish.
I found speaking Spanish to Spanish people difficult especially when ordering food as I didn’t have my Spanish book in my hand to rely on however, after speaking Spanish, I felt a lot more confident. We tried Spanish food like churros, bocadillo de calamares and ate at the Mueso de Jamón. However, surprisingly, some people still preferred Starbucks and Mac Donalds to the squid rings!
Overall, it was a great trip where we all created lots of amazing memories. As well as improving our confidence in speaking Spanish, we have seen some beautiful places and even stood in the centre of Spain.
We would all like to say a massive thank you to all the staff who were involved in anyway to make it a great trip.
